Tanglewood Festival of Lights - Nov. 14, 2009

Beginning November 14, 2009 through January 1, 2010, Tanglewood’s rolling countryside will be transformed into a winter wonderland of giant snowflakes and whimsical scenes! Entering our 18th season, Tanglewood’s Festival of Lights continues to be one of the largest and most spectacular light shows in the entire southeast. From storybook scenes to Holiday themes, over one hundred displays and over a million lights fill Tanglewood Park with the entire splendor and joy of the Holiday season.

13th Annual Festival of Trees - Nov. 11, 2009

Wed & Sat 10am-10pm; Thu-Fri 10am-8pm; Sunday 10am-3pm. Holiday festival featuring lavishly decorated, one-of-a-kind trees, wreaths, and tabletop decorations in family-centered winter wonderland. Civil War Re-enactment - Stoneman's Raid on Asheville - Nov. 14, 2009

In April 1865, Union forces under the command of General Alvan C. Gillem, acting on orders issued by General Stoneman, tried to attack Asheville via Swannanoa Gap. They were turned back by a Confederate force of infantry and artillery. Failing to take Asheville via Swannanoa Gap, they first moved south to Rutherfordton, then west, passing through Green River Plantation. Come to the Plantation and experience what it was like to be in that Civil War battle. Call for more information.

Hidden Battleship - Nov. 14, 2009

See the Battleship like you never have before! Small groups will be taken behind-the-scenes to areas not on the regular tour from down in the brig (ships jail) to high up in the fire control tower to large, complex engineering spaces. The tours will last approximately three hours. The price of $45 includes admission to the Ship. Friends of the Battleship members pay $35. You must be 12 years or older to participate. Wear comfortable, warm clothing and sturdy, rubber-soled shoes; bring a camera, but no large backpacks.
